Canoe Safari

Design development, detailed design and construction supervision in conjunction with Coed Dinefwr. A new visitor attraction, 16 3 seat Canadian Canoes giving access to an extensive area of coastal marsh via a network of specially constructed channels. It provides:

  • a Safety Induction Hut with equipment storage which doubles as a bird watching hide during the winter months when the canoe safari is inactive.
  • Landing Jetty designed to accommodate 4 moored Canoes.
  • Compound enclosing and connecting the whole facility.
  • Compost Toilet low impact, low odour design. It incorporates urine separation with hand wash waste water, flush taken to a soak-away. Innovative single seat design with easily interchanged 350 litre wheeled compost bins. Integral sawdust storage with (flush) scoop adjacent to seat. Complies with DDA recommendations for disabled toilets.

All these elements were constructed with locally sourced Douglas Fir. Timber framed construction clad with waney-edged Douglas Fir boards. Both buildings utilise a low impact (earth-locked) ground beam foundation.
